Product Review: Stella and Chewy's Freeze Dried Cat Food

My dog says KitCat is taking over the blog today! We love to try different freeze dried foods, so we were eager to check out Stella and Chewy's Sea-licious Salmon and Cod Grain-Free Freeze-Dried Cat food. Meow wow!

Ingredients:

The first five ingredients in this particular recipe are salmon (ground with bone), cod (also ground with bone, cod liver oil, pumpkin seed, and potassium chloride. This food is made with sustainably-sourced ingredients and is 98% wild caught salmon and cod, organs, and bone. Lots of raw food nutrition.

Usability:

Freeze-dried foods need to be mixed with water to make a meal, but I used these nuggets as treats instead. Initially, I was concerned over the size; they looked too big for a cat. I thought I'd have to break each piece into two, but I was wrong. KitCat took each piece and was able to chew it or break it apart fine. If you give them as treats, be sure the water bowl is full.

If you choose to mix it with water for a meal, the nuggets are a little easier to work with than the traditional powdery freeze-dried food. The consistency is nice, but you can make it firmer of smoother depending on your cat's needs.

We also like that the pouch sealed easily for storage, but didn't find the "easy open" very easy.

Cost:

Freeze-dried foods are always a little pricey, so you have to expect that. It's just how it is. The 3.5 ounce bag of Stella and Chewy's Sea-licious, Grain-Free, Freeze-Dried food is currently $9.49 at chewy.com.

KitCat loves freeze-dried foods, and Stella and Chewy's Sea-licious is no different. This food was a success and earns four paws up from our resident feline!

Product Review: Wellness Simply Shreds Tasty Topper for Cats

My dog says we love our KitCat and we're always looking for new foods he'll love. That's why this week we tested out a product from Wellness that we hoped would be a good addition to his diet. Did his discriminating palate enjoy it? Did he meow with delight? Read on, friends!

So far, we've been fans of the products we've tried from Wellness, so we were very excited to test out the Wellness Simply Shreds Savory Side for Cats. The wild salmon and tuna flavors sounded yummy so we gave that one a whirl!

When we get these shipped from Chewy, we're always very pleased with the packaging. Since these are pouches, they could get pierced in transit. But, they're put in sturdy cardboard boxes to prevent any damage during shipping (inside the box is the traditional retail display box if you want to keep these looking nice in your pantry).

This food is formulated to give your cat a meat-based, ancestral diet. That means no nonsense and one of the simplest ingredient lists you'll find in a cat food: salmon, fish broth, water sufficient for processing, and tuna. That's it, just four ingredients! No fillers, no ingredients you can't pronounce, nothing your kitty doesn't want. 

KitCat has already started a routine with these. He laps up the broth first, then eats the meat. He literally comes running when he knows this is what I'm preparing for him. 

The portion size is good for a meal or a snack, depending on your cat's weight and appetite. Serve it as a topper for your kitty's kibble or on the side so your cat can keep his kibble crunchy! KitCat enjoys it so much, we put in on the side so he can just enjoy it without kibble getting in the way.

Overall, we are very pleased with these toppers from Wellness. We've added them to our autoship on Chewy.com and are happy that we can make our KitCat so happy! We give this product four out of four paws and look forward to trying more flavors in this line.

Product Review: Wellness Simply Shreds Toppers for Dogs

My dogs says we're always looking for new foods to spoil our dogs with, that's why we wanted to test out a pouch food for the pups this week!

Our KitCat has really enjoyed the Wellness Simply Shreds line for cats, and we just realized they have it in a recipe for dogs, too! Wooo! Will the pups enjoy it as much as KitCat likes the variety for cats? Hmmmm. Let's try it out and get our answer!

The Wellness variety we sampled was the Wellness Core Simply Shreds Grain Free pouches in the chicken, wild salmon, and pumpkin flavor. We read the ingredient list on all the pet foods we buy and we are generally partial to the ones that have limited ingredients. This is one such product. All you have is five things in this pouch, and you know what they all are (no weird words that you don't know if they're good or bad!). In this recipe, all you'll find is the following; chicken, chicken broth, water sufficient for processing, salmon, and pumpkin.

This food is marketed as a topper and we think that's the best use for it. It's ideal for small or large dogs and can just be served on top of kibble, or mixed in so there's a savory broth coating all the kibble pieces and meat and pumpkin throughout. The picture below just shows the product alone so you can gauge the meat to broth ratio.

Ok, sorry, we had to stop working on this review because Alexander was trying to take over the computer so he could add the Wellness shreds to his Chewy autoship. So, yeah, we have a winner here...big time! Alexander ate this up in record time!

We give the Wellness Simply Shreds grain free topper for dogs five out of four paws! Yeah, you read that right! Five! A paw for each ingredient! We're eager to try the toppers in other flavors, but in the meantime everyone here is really enjoying the chicken/salmon/pumpkin combo!
