Sleepy hippos

My dog says he loves this photo of a napping hippo and her baby. Did you know that the name hippotamus comes from the Greek words "hippos," meaning horse, and "potamus," meaning river?

Blindness is no setback for animals

My dog says he just discovered a great website dedicated to the care of blind horses. The people who host the site also operate an animal sanctuary. Rolling Dog Ranch in Montana is home to blind horses, deaf dogs, and other loving creatures with neurological or orthopedic disabilities.

Animals with a physical or mental disability are still amazing companions. Over the years, my family has adopted four blind dogs and one deaf one. They got around remarkably well and possessed all the same great attributes as our other dogs—they were affectionate, playful, and ever so grateful.

Won't you consider adopting an animal with a disability who really needs a home? Or, perhaps, a donation to Rolling Dog Ranch or your favorite animal rescue group?

Wild horses and burros need your help

My dog says that burros and wild horses need your help today! In the coming weeks, thousands will be rounded up in California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, and Wyoming; some penned and many sold at auction, to eventually be killed. Please take action now and send an email to voice your outrage. These are wild animals who are being taken from their homes.

Horses aren't food

My dog says that horses should not be killed for their meat. To see the movie trailer for Saving America's Horses: A Nation Betrayed, click HERE. This film exposes the horrors of the horse meat industry and producers need your support to finish the film and get it out to the public. To learn how you can help, click HERE.
