Elephant Romps in Ocean

My dog says the next time you visit the zoo and think the elephants there are happy, remember this video. We were all born to be free; not confined. Look at this elephant romp through the waves. This is what happiness looks like.



When we found this video above many years ago, we thought it was adorable and wanted to share it because we thought the elephant was having a great time. But, since then, we've learned that is NOT the case!

As it turns out, baby elephants are trained to romp in the ocean to amuse tourists. Trainers hide nails in their hands and then stab the baby elephant in the ear as they guide them into the ocean!

It's Elephant Appreciation Day!

My dog says that today, September 22, is Elephant Appreciation Day. To honor these magnificent animals, why not learn more about them by visiting The Elephant Sanctuary website.

This amazing sanctuary in Tennessee is home to Asian and African elephants who were previously on display at zoos, circuses, or other entertainment venues. Now, they can enjoy their retirement years on soft dirt and green grass. The sanctuary even has a live Elecam where you can see what the elephants are doing on any given day.

It costs $125,000 annually to take care of each of elephant under the sanctuary's care, so why not consider "adopting" one to help pay for his/her care? Now, that would be a nice way to celebrate Elephant Appreciation Day!

Help Lucy the elephant

My dogs says Lucy the elephant needs help. She was abducted as a baby in Sri Lanka and is now 34 years old with many health problems. To top it off, she's behind bars in a cold, cold Canada zoo.
