Product Review: Merrick's Thanksgiving Day Dinner Canned Cat Food

My dog says the one thing most of us can agree on is that on Thanksgiving day we all enjoy the BEST dinner of the year! Yep, it's yummy and comforting and always calls us to come back for seconds. That's why we were excited to try Merrick's Purrfect Bistro Thanksgiving Day Dinner (for cats) from Chewy.com. KitCat was eager to initiate his taste testing and get to eatin'!

Ingredients:

Each can is packed solid with minced turkey, duck, chicken liver and includes just the perfect amount of gravy to keep the chunks moist. It's worthwhile to note the chunks of meat are nice and small so your cat or kitten won't struggle to chew them up. This is also a grain-free food, which we love, and in addition to the quality meat it includes peas, eggs, potato, carrots, sweet potato, cranberries, and organic alfalfa. The first ingredient is deboned turkey, so this is a nutritionally-sound meal.

Usability:

Since this canned food comes minced in gravy, I initially thought that might be a problem. KitCat, now 7 months old, has grown up on pate and generally my animals haven't been fond of foods in gravy. (Based on past experience, pet foods in gravy are frequently light on meat and heavy on gravy; that isn't the case with Thanksgiving Dinner. Each can is packed solid with lots of turkey and duck.)

Since KitCat is used to pate, when he first ate the minced food he kept taking out a chunk and setting it down outside his bowl. But, that said, he ate every piece he set down. After a few days, he got used to the chunks and now he just eats it just like he would any other canned food.

Origin:

All Merrick recipes are cooked in the United States and never contain ingredients from China.

Cost:

Cases are available from Chewy.com in either a 3 ounce size or a 5.5 ounce, and currently cost $25.88 and $33.08 respectively.

Rating:

KitCat is still on kitten kibble and canned kitten food since he needs to adhere to a kitten formula for a few more months, so we've been using the Thanksgiving Dinner as a supplement. When he reaches a year, we'll certainly be making Thanksgiving Dinner a regular part of his meal plan. We look forward to trying some of the other Merrick Purrfect Bistro canned foods, as well.

On a scale of one to four paws, we give the Merrick Thanksgiving Dinner an enthusiastic four. The ingredients are excellent and KitCat licks his dish clean every time the food is served.
