My dog says this week we've been taste testing Solid Gold dog kibble. Since we've got little ones in the canine crew, we opted to try the small breed kibble. It looks like this product is in the middle of a rebranding, so you'll see that our photos says Lil' Boss but the photo when ordering online says Mighty Mini. Rest assured, it's the same product. So are the pups Mighty Mini/Lil' Boss fans? Let's see.
We opted for the turkey and hearty vegetable, grain-free recipe. As always, we like to look at the first five items on the ingredient list. In this recipe, it's turkey, turkey meal, chicken meal, peas, and chickpeas. Good stuff.
This variety also boasts 20 superfoods in it like blueberries, cranberries, pumpkin, lentils, carrots, kelp, broccoli, and almond oil. There's also other veggies including apples, lettuce, celery, beets, watercress, parsley, and spinach. Monounsaturated fats such as olive oil, salmon oil, and canola oil are also in the mix which are good for a healthy skin and coat. Lastly, the recipe is void of corn, soy, and wheat so it's a good option of dogs with allergies.
Now onto size. It's hard to believe all dog kibble used to be the same size back in the dark ages. Luckily, there are now a great selection of small breed kibbles on the market. The Mighty Mini is, indeed, mini (similar in size to a cat food); perfect for chihuahuas, poms, and other little breeds. (For reference, that's a pinky finger in the photo above.)
So, all of this is well and good, but will the crew eat it?
Yes! Alexander enjoyed it and the cat even came over to try to take it from him. Only one caveat on the size if you have a fast eater, the tiny kibble size might be problematic since a pup can fit a bunch of this into his/her mouth at once. We recommend using a slow feeder dish if you have a furry friend who's inclined to scarf his or her food.
The Solid Gold Mighty Mini turkey recipe is available on Chewy.com in a 4 lb and 11 lb bag. There's also four other flavors available. The pups here at My Dog Says Woof give this food a rating of three out of four paws up! We look forward to trying the other flavors soon!

Product Review: Solid Gold Triple Layer Food Cups for Cats
My dog says today the pups are stepping aside and handing over the blog to KitCat, our in-house kitty reviewer! This week, KitCat checks out Solid Gold Triple Layer wet cat food. Without further adieu, let's get on with the show!
The Solid Gold Triple Layer has three amazing textures to it: pate, mousse, and shreds! The mousse is pumpkin and the shreds and pate are both meat protein. This food is for all ages, from kitten to senior. The layered style is a nice way to introduce different types of food to a kitten, especially, so he/she gets used to a variety of consistencies at a young age.
As always, we pay extra close attention to the first several ingredients in every food we test. For this variety, we found: chicken, turkey, pumpkin, egg white, whole egg, and tuna. That sounds like something yummy you'd make for a Sunday brunch, doesn't it?
Both grain and gluten free, this recipe is void of fillers like corn, wheat, and soy. There are also no artificial preservatives or flavors, and no carrageenan or BPA. What there is, though, is lots of meat protein and fiber-rich pumpkin which aids with healthy digestion.
Now, to the taste test...
KitCat sauntered over to the food and ate about half of it. He went back to his dish to polish it off a short time later. He ate all of food (we gave him a half cup at a time), but he didn't scarf it down like the Solid Gold Purrfect Pairings. Therefore, we give the Triple Layer three and a half out of four paws. We've never given KitCat pumpkin before, so undoubtedly that was a new flavor and texture to him. These wet food cups are filled with quality ingredients that we're really happy about, though, so we're going to try some of the other Triple Layer varieties to see if we find another flavor he might prefer (we got the turkey flavor, but there are also salmon, beef, and chicken recipes available).
The Solid Gold Triple Layer Mousse with Shreds is available on Chewy.com in a 6-cup case. Each cup is a good 2.75 ounce serving.
If your cat is a finicky eater, having three types of food in one cup may be just what you need. The pate/mousse/shreds combo cup is a brilliant idea and we look forward to trying other Triple Layer flavors in the future!

Product Review: Solid Gold SeaMeal Supplements for Dogs
My dog says this week we're excited to review something a little different: Solid Gold SeaMeal Supplements. Formulated to treat skin and coat, the digestive system, and immune health, these sound just like what one of our itchy family members needs.
When Billy came to us, he had terrible skin and was prone to throwing up. It's an issue we've been dealing with, trying to find the right solution. That means we're always eager to try something new.
The seaweed is all USA-sourced and is high in chlorophyll, iodine, and essential nutrients. It is also rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants which help support healthy skin and coat. The flaxseeds and omega oils also soothe and nourish the skin.
Since tummy and skin issues frequently go together, digestive enzymes are added to maintain a healthy digestive system. Plus B vitamins, zinc, selenium, iron and magnesium help maintain digestive and immune health.
These supplements are grain-free, and contain no gluten. So, they're great for pets with sensitivities or allergies. There are also no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.
UPDATE! We have used this product for a month now and we absolutely see some visible improvements. Our dog's hair is thicker and softer and he hasn't pulled any of it out (which he always does in the spring and summer months). We are very pleased with the results of the SeaMeal!

Ingredients:
As with most supplements, many of the ingredients are things that have value and we don't fully understand what that value is. The first few items on the ingredient list here are dried seaweed meal, brewer's dried yeast, glycerin, dried potato, flaxseed, and lecithin. The seaweed is all USA-sourced and is high in chlorophyll, iodine, and essential nutrients. It is also rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants which help support healthy skin and coat. The flaxseeds and omega oils also soothe and nourish the skin.

Usability:
These chews are soft and easy to break apart. Although they could be given whole, we've been breaking each piece into four so it's roughly the same size as a piece of kibble. Then we still into into the bowl with the kibble and wet food. The pups eat them up; no issues at all.Origin:
Made in the U.S.A.Cost:
The cost for autoship on Chewy.com right now is $22.79. Since these are something you'll have your dog on regularly, may as well get the autoship discount. There are 120 in a bottle, so it's a nice supply (lasting up to 8 months for small dogs or one month for dogs over 75 pounds). Not a bad price if it gets you a dog with better skin and fewer digestive issues!Rating:
We've been using the Solid Gold SeaMeal supplements for two weeks now and we think we've seen some improvements. We're going to update this review in another two weeks and give it a rating then. A full one-month period will probably yield the most accurate results.UPDATE! We have used this product for a month now and we absolutely see some visible improvements. Product Review: Solid Gold Purrfect Pairings Savory Mousse for Cats
My dog says we have another new cat food to review today: Purrfect Pairings by Solid Gold. This line of wet cat food comes in six varieties and we are excited to share with you our thoughts on the Savory Mousse with Shrimp and Goat Milk flavor (doesn't that sound yummy?).
After opening the cup and dishing it out for KitCat, we quickly realized why water is the first ingredient. The Purrfect Pairings food is wonderfully light and soft; now we get why they call this a mousse. It's just as soft, if not softer, than canned kitten food. After reading more about this product line we realized it is 75% moisture, so it's designed to be a good dietary source of water for your cat's urinary tract health.
When ordered from Chewy (which is where we get all our food and supplies), Purrfect Pairings comes in a six-cup case. To ensure the foil lids don't get pierced, it's packaged nicely in a tray which is easy to store in your pantry.
KitCat is happy to rate the Solid Gold Purrfect Pairings mousse an enthusiastic four out of four paws! We look forward to trying the other five flavors soon.

Ingredients:
Normally we like to see meat as the first ingredient in our pet foods, but we made an exception on this product because we really liked the ingredient list as a whole. That said, the first ingredient in this flavor of Purrfect Pairings was water sufficient for processing, but the next three ingredients are shrimp, salmon, and tuna. The food smells deliciously fishy, but isn't overbearing. This is also a grain-free food, which we always love, plus there's goat milk!Usability:
Purrfect Pairings comes in 2.75 ounce cups; that makes it a smidge less than what you'll typically find in a small can of kitten food. That said, the mousse style plumps up the food and it actually looks like significantly more than it actually is (the cups are even bigger than you'd expect). Solid Gold says to feed two cups per six pounds of body weight, however you could also serve less if you wanted to offer your cat a snack. When ordered from Chewy (which is where we get all our food and supplies), Purrfect Pairings comes in a six-cup case. To ensure the foil lids don't get pierced, it's packaged nicely in a tray which is easy to store in your pantry.
The foil is easy to peel back and the mousse looks and smells great.
Origin:
Made in the good ole' U.S.A.!Cost:
A six-cup case of the shrimp and goat milk flavor is currently $8.34 when you order from Chewy. Although sometimes you'll find that different flavors of food cost different prices, all six flavors of the Solid Gold Purrfect Pairings cost the same price. (The other flavors are tuna and goat milk, chicken and goat milk, chicken liver and goat milk, salmon and goat milk, and whitefish and goat milk. All are grain-free.)Rating:
When we gave KitCat the food, we weren't in the least bit surprised that he goggled it up. It smells good, has great texture, and looks delish.
KitCat is happy to rate the Solid Gold Purrfect Pairings mousse an enthusiastic four out of four paws! We look forward to trying the other five flavors soon.
