Mother's Day is for Dogs, too!
My dog says Mother's Day is coming up and it's important to remember that dogs are moms, too! Sadly, many of those moms are forced to live in puppy mills where they stand in wire cages, receive no human love or contact, and are impregnated again and again--with their babies taken away from them. That's no way to treat a mother!

My dog says he loves it when celebs speak out on behalf of animals! Check out what Mike Ness (lead singer of Social Distortion), Chrissie Hynde (lead singer of The Pretenders), Tony Kanal (base player, No Doubt), and other entertainers (including comedian Elayne Boosler) had to say while at the Animal Acres Gala to help farm animals.

Bob Barker speaks out for dogs left in cars
My dog says Bob Barker is such a hero to animals! The former Price is Right host has done so many things to advocate for both wild and domestic creatures and his efforts make a real difference. Advocating for elephants in zoos, protecting whales against Japanese hunters, and establishing an animal law program at the University of Virginia are just a few of the many things Barker has done to help animals.
Barker's most recent good deed is the video below, which reminds people about the dangers of leaving your dog in the car. There are other celebs who do things here and there to help animals, but Barker is a step above the rest and always puts his money where his mouth is. Thank you for all you do for animals, Bob! You are our hero!

My dog says that today is the birthday of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Why not celebrate the day by doing something special to help the creatures with whom we all share the planet?
Donate towels or blankets to your local animal shelter, have a feral cat spayed or neutered, buy your dog a new toy, play with your kitty, feed the birds, throw peanuts to the squirrels, make a contribution to your favorite animal charity, or do something nice for a companion animal in your neighborhood.
If you love animals, find a special way to honor them today (and every day!).

My dog says shame on Nike for re-signing Michael Vick to endorse its products. If Vick had tortured and killed kids, would people be so forgiving? No way! And animals are just as innocent and helpless as children are at the hand of an abuser. SHAME ON NIKE.

Jon and Kate dump their dogs
My dog says he is disgusted that Jon and Kate (of Jon and Kate Plus 8 fame) are dumping their dogs because they're too much work. Dogs are a LIFETIME commitment, not some thing to be discarded if your life changes.
However, based on what Jon has said in the past about his kids being rough with the dogs, maybe Shoka and Nala will find a better home the second time around. Dogs can be a wonderful addition to a family with children, but the kids must be taught to interact with them in a kind and loving manner.
Good luck, Shoka and Nala. Here's hoping your new family is better.
P.S. Don't breed or buy while homeless animals die. Adopt your companion animals from the shelter!

My dog says that he knew he liked Harvey Levin of TMZ. Last week, Harvey made John Mayer donate $25,000 to two great animal rescue organizations when John lost a bet (Ace of Hearts and Pet Orphans of Southern California were the lucky groups).

Michael Vick dog jerseys belong in the trash
My dog says you should comment on the blog entry from the LA Times about dog jerseys with Michael Vick's name and number on them. NO DOG would ever want to wear clothing bearing the name of a man who tortured and murdered so many animals. Vick is no friend to dogs.
